I just bought my first Copic marker "skin white"yesterday. I had originally coloured the boys hair, arms and legs and my friend Diana's house. She gave me some tips on shading and now I just have to practice. Anyway, had to buy the new marker because I didn't colour the torso on the boy. Guess I thought it was a shirt.

The swimmer boy is a bookmark so you can keep up with your summer reading by the pool.

Instead of a card I decided to make a cd holder. You can record your favourite summertime music to give to a friend or take on vacation.

To make the sand look textured I used crumb cake card stock and a tearing tool.

She's A Brick House

I like to make this easel card shape because of the way it props up so nicely and for this card helps give it the wall effect. All the bricks are individually cut out and adhered to the card.

Before And After

This is the before. It's supposed to be a walk in closet not a walk in disaster. It wasn't designed properly so it couldn't be used properly. If you were to hang clothes where you see the dress with the brown squares on it, you would not be able to open or close the closet door because the hangers would stick out too far. To fix this space, I found a book shelf at IKEA that fit exactly where you couldn't put hangers. This holds my purses, shoes and accessories.

The green dish was found at a garage sale, the 3 tier glass dish is from IKEA.
This little space was going to have a small bar for hanging clothes but I didn't realize how small it was so these hooks, surprise, surprise, also from IKEA went here for my necklaces.

Added a hook here to hang up clothes to be ready for the next day to make the morning go smoother.
The bottom shelf has enough height for boots and large beach totes.
Since the bookshelf was so high, the top shelf that runs around 2 of the walls went up higher which makes room for 2 tiers of clothes making the space more efficient.

When sorting out your clothes, remember, if it doesn't fit you or make you feel fabulous, then it shouldn't go back in the closet.

Royal Wedding

This is the very first card I received for the Royal Wedding card swap I hosted at Splitcoaststampers. It was created by Sheila, who, if you can believe it, just participated in her first swap.

Sheila used the Lili of the Valley wedding couple, stamped on water colour paper and hand coloured with water colour pencils and a blending pen.

Phenomenal work and what a delight for me to receive Sheila's first ever swap.
This card was created by Debi. I actually have this stamp set but never realized the immense versatility of Asian Artistry. If you look back in April of this year you will see the last item I created with this stamp set. I love what you have done and will now try to think outside the box.
This card was created by Pam. The black and white colours really make the pink flowers in the brides hair and the bow really Pop. I'm not sure if you can tell by the photograph but along the train of the dress glitter was very carefully added.
Diane made this heart shaped bride and groom from a punch. One of the things I am really impressed with, which I am afraid you may not be able to see, is that the grooms tux was punched in a black paper which is matt on one side and glossy on the other which makes the lapels stand out and give it the true formal wedding day tuxedo look.
True elegance. Go ahead and admire the precision cutting and the tone on tone loveliness. Ahhh, delightful!
I'm sure Karen knows how much I am attracted to butterflies lately. Just love them and can't get enough of them. This card could take you any where, from the engagement party, the bridal shower or the wedding. Versatility plus!
Krissie sent these and let me tell you when I opened it up at the post office I thought it was a hoot. It got passed around and everyone had the same reaction: They loved it! You can see the punch is the same as Diane's but this is a completely different couple in completely different wedding dress. The grooms tie is a knotted ribbon and the bride has a traditional veil.
Lastly is Angie's card. There are 6 layers here on this vanilla and black card but the simplicity and elegance shine through. The scalloped circle wedding bells are on pop dots.

Looks like I need a thesaurus for lovely and elegant! Thank you ladies for participating in this swap.

Fresh Cuts Necklace

I had run out of adhesive one day and didn't want to stop creating so I made this necklace using microscope slides, fresh cuts stamp set and blender pens. Stamped once, coloured, cut in half and mounted. Taadaa.

From the Occasions Mini catalogue, which can order from until April 30, 2011, I used the Vintage Flower Adornments and the Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper, and the Decorative Label Punch. From the 2010 - 2011 Idea Catalogue I used Pocket Silhouettes, and Full Of Life stamp sets. Both of these were made at my friend Janet's house back in March.

10 Days Later

What did I get done in the past 10 days? Well, I made a space just big enough to work on but wanted to spread out so I started working on the floor. I ran out of black background paper and also decided I needed some red lettering for a title. This past Friday I went to Oakville to get 6 12x12 black cardstock and red letter stickers from a former Creative Memories consultant. The Sunday after I started scrapbooking again I went to Walmart to pick up enlarged photos. I also had some 4x6 printed out that I thought I had not previously printed out BUT it turned out that I did...this is the kind of problem that happens when you are not organized. Hopefully it won't happen again.
The goal for the next 7 to 10 days is to finish this event I'm scrapbook which is our trip to the AGO back in February of 2010 where we viewed the King Tut exhibit. I will also have any pictures printed out that I might need for the next pages. Until then, keep yourself organized so you don't have a craft room that looks like mine.

Time To Start Organizing

What Happened?! Was I ransacked and robbed? No. That would be less humiliating. This is the big sty I create in. Ok, it's just a pig sty now because I can't do anything in here and haven't for at least 2 months.
How can I get started to make it right? Apparently the first thing I have to do is show the world which means that now I am accountable to not just myself but to you too.
Here is what else I'll do, (Yes, I'm making it up as I go along but it sounds good in my head right now) I'll post weekly pictures to show the progress.
Don't be afraid but I think it will look worse before it looks better.
I want to work on scrapbooking and I also want to work on cards. Checkout the surface area my "desk". Did you notice? That's right not one inch of clear space.
I'll attempt to clear space on the table and create ONE project to show. I'll go for a page of scrapbooking.
I better get started. See you next week.

The one with the little drawers reminds me of boxes I used to make out of Q-Tip boxes when I was a young girl. I would use the boxes to hold clothes for the paper dolls I had made. Those were the good old days.

Milestones

Last night a bunch of my Splitcoaststampers and I went to Milestones in Mississauga where we had ballinis and appetizers. I made this votive holder to match the ballinis which had the adorable red high heel shoes on top of the drink. We had such a good time!Diana made this cute heart shaped basket for me for the last time we were to get together but I couldn't make it. She saved me one and brought it last night. Wasn't that thoughtful?!
Diana made this bookmark as well. There was also, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Elmo and the one I chose here, Big Bird.

Autumn Splendour Tri Fold Shutter card

I used the Autumn Splendour stamps to make my own designer paper. First I started with plain white card stock, stamped the images using versa mark, then poured gold embossing powder over top and set the images with a heat gun. Next, I sponged on colours that are in the other papers used. Voila, my own designer paper.

To make a trifold shutter card you need 12 x 12 paper cut to 12 x 5 1/2. Score at 2, 4, 8, 10 inches. Make 1/4 turn and cut from 2 inch score to 10 inch score 1 1/2 inches from top and bottom. Decorate, fold and give to someone special.

I made this using the Season Of Friendship by Stampin' Up! The bookmark sits in the "snow" which is just white cardstock that was ripped to give texture. The background of the kraft paper has versa marked snow flakes. This is the first of the four seasons. I may try fall next.

Blooming Magnets

I started this as a magnet but then wondered how I could turn it into a card. I remembered that I had this punch, which I just had to have 2 years ago but never used until today.

On the right is the magnet attached to the card and on the left is the magnet removed from the card and ready for the refrigerator door, office cabinet or any other metal surface.

Paper Boxes

I made these boxes using SU! retired set God's Beauty and retired SU! DS paper, Haiku. First I cut 4 equal sizes of cardboard and using book binding glue attached the inside and outside papers. Another paper was chosen for the 4 origami boxes inside and yet another paper also folded origami style for the top and bottom. The outside of the box was then embellished.

This is my son, Jacob with Bishop Soul who is a Michael Jackson tribute artist. We met yesterday at Coffee Culture in Grimsby. Aren't they both handsome?! One of Michael Jackson's songs is entitled Black Or White so I'm going to show you this black and white waterfall card I made using the daisy from SU!'s Organic Grace stamp set. Four of the same image was stamped and placed on a folded strip that when pulled, reveals each image separately. The first picture is before you pull the ribbon tab. In the second picture I tried to show you how the card looks as it is being pulled and the third is once you've pulled all the way.

This is a faux metal emboss. Just make a few layers of embossing then, while still hot, stick your stamp in. I got the asian coin stamp from Michael's and the bird on bamboo, which was stamped twice to be a longer version of itself, is a hostess set from SU! called Asian Artistry.
I used the big shot for the envelope, real red ribbon, punches from SU! and 3 different stamp set from SU!; Wonderful Words, Baroque Motifs, and Vintage Vogue.

Another easel card but with a different Hello Kitty. I used kraft for the base. Pumpkin Pie next, and topped that with paper from the sweet pea pack. Hello Kitty and her balloons were made from old olive, basic black, whisper white, the sweet pea pack and so saffron. The scallop trim punch was also used.

My friend SuzieQ brought me her Sizzix and all her dies to play with for awhile. This is the first thing I made. There is about 5 layers of paper here. These were easy to make but time consuming. 5 cards took me the length of 2 movies.

Piano Hinge Bookbinding @ The Paper Place

On Tuesday February 16, 2010 I took a book binding workshop at The Paper Place. www. thepaperplace.ca The workshop was to teach us the piano hinge technique. Our instructor was Cherryl Moote author of Book With Girth. The picture below is of our supplies. We first did a mock up using computer paper and bamboo skewers. It's best to use inexpensive supplies to first get the feel of this binding then to go on to expensive or exotic items such as good paper and porcupine quills.
Here is Karen weaving in her doweling.
It is best to use an odd number of tabs for the spine. My mock up had 5 but I quickly went to 7 for my photo album. You can see in the upper right hand corner my template (purple paper with notches cut out). This ensures even that all signatures will be cut the same size and pattern.

I've already cut some dogwood yesterday for the spine and am ready to make a book at home.

Season Of Friendship

Here are 2 different frames I made using the Season of Friendship. I started this project at my friend Diana's house using my friend Christyne's stamp set. I like this set so much that I finally ordered it myself. I was going to put one season in each picture slot but realized I could put 2 seasons in each so that all 4 seasons could go in each frame. The second one I will open up again and add a sentiment along the bottom since I mounted then a little high.

Lemon Waffles (4 servings)

4 eggs -- separated
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1 Tablespoon fresh lemon juice
grated peel of 1 entire lemon
1/4 cup melted butter
1 and 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

In a medium bowl, beat egg yolks with the sugar and salt. Blend in the milk, lemon juice, lemon peel, and butter, beating well. Add the flour and baking powder. Beat egg whites until stiff and fold into batter. As usual, bake in a preheated waffle iron until golden brown.

Serve warm with maple syrup.

If you don't want maple syrup, try topping with fresh berries and lemon yogurt. Yummmmmm!

This is the last kilometre under warranty. Just 29 km before, this the car wouldn't start but since I still had a warranty I was towed to the Chrysler dealership. Turns out it was the battery. Got a new battery but it looks like I better get a membership with CAA ASAP.

Toronto Paper Place Shopping Trip

Yesterday I had the opportunity to go to The Paper Place on Queen St West in Toronto. http://www.thepaperplace.ca/ Had a lovely time and feel so creative and energized now.

The first picture shows a box of paper clips which are shaped like a bird. The second shows the clip on paper. Isn't it gorgeous?! There are other animals too like squirrels, whales, dogs, rabbits, penguin, elephant, horse, alligator, cow, pig, turtle, duck, cat and dolphin. They come in a box of 30 for about $9.95 or you can by them individually for $0.50 each, which is great if you want one of each for a paper clip menagerie.

The 3rd shot is of a sheet of paper which has paper birds sewn on. There is a similar paper with butterflies. I wish I got both.

I also got a kit to make glass and paper pendants to hang on necklaces. The kit has enough to make 5. I'll post later when the are created.

Motorcycle Pop-up Card

I finally got this card done. It took months and I couldn't have done it without my friend Ina. First I got a request for a motorcycle card, so I looked on Ebay and found a rubber stamp and sent for it. In the mean time Ina has the retired set Born To Ride from Stampin' Up so she sent me the born to ride image. Then I received the motorcycle stamp from Ebay only to find it is not like the image but half in silhouette. I sent back my stamp to them and they sent me a new one which was unmounted AND more of a silhouette then the first. *sigh* But then Ina comes to the rescue and sends me motorcycle images so I can finish the cards.

I used pumpkin pie, basic black and whisper white card stock. A crimper and a punch were my tools. The accessory is jewellery wire which was wrapped around the crimped black paper.

So, there you have it, the card that took almost 2 months to make.

Return Postage Holder

Here is one of 10 return postage holders I made for a swap. The technique used is faux postage. The template for it is here: http://images.splitcoaststampers.com/data/ee/images/tutorials/fauxpostage3x2.44c_.pdf I cut out the centre of 6 stamps to use over what I was stamping since the rubber stamp I used is bigger than the space stamped. I used the template again when I sponged creamy carmel over top.

The stamp set used is the retired set Classic Sketches from Stampin' Up!.

Ink used is basic black and creamy caramel.

Paper used is basic black, whisper white, real red, and creamy caramel.

It is due on Feb 15, 2010.

CASED cards

A couple of cards I CASED last weekend.

Stampers 10 October 19th

These four cards are all from Stampers 10 on Monday, October 19th. The paper used from the top card was ripped out of book, stamped with a wheel using versa mark, then sponged over with chocolate chip ink. The pretties kit flower was dyed with chocolate chip ink.
This card was quick and easy to make.
A new way to use Pocket Silhouettes by making a vase with crimper and oval punch to hold the arrangement.
I had not tried any technique on a background stamp until now. First the white paper was randomly sponged with 3 different colours, then versa stamped and heat embossed, then finally sponged over with chocolate chip ink.

Audrey's Hippie Swap

This was Audrey's Hippie swap. I got the package this week. Unfortunately, I did not take a picture of the card I swapped but I could easily make another one to show. I do like all three very much but would like to show the nifty closure on the card to the extreme right. See how the tab slips in?! Cool, eh?!

Peaches

These are the 1/2 peaches and jams I canned back in August. My husband took the picture and of course Tiana had to get in the shot. Just got a bushel of grapes today and have started the juice for jelly. That may be worth blogging about too.

Ok, FINALLY I took pictures of my ribbon from the Smithville Fair. I won this for my peach jam. On Tuesday of this week I got my cheque for all my winnings and went to Michaels craft store and bought myself a crimper. Here is a picture of the card I made last night with it. I had run out of tape so had to use photosplits to finish at least one. The other 5 cards which are already cut out will wait for tape.

Big Daddy's

This was on Tuesday September 29th, 2009. We met at Big Daddy's in Mississauga. Here is Ina, Karen, Diana, & Christyne. Look at all the goodies we shared with each other! Diana made the purse which can hold cards, Christyne made the card, Ina made the crochet flowers, Karen made the soap and lip balm (which I opened last night and it is just like honey butter in scent and appearance YUM!)Oh, and I brought jam which can kinda see in the background. So as you can see we are not only beautiful but talented too!
